The Miolo winery is one of the most fascinating businesses in Vale dos Vinhedos.
In 1897 an immigrant from Venice, Giuseppe Miolo, settled on a thirty-hectare wooded piece of land named "Lot 43". For three generations, the Miolo family grew vine until the overproduction crisis in the 1980s forced them along with other growers, to become winemakers. Brothers Paulo (vineyards), Darcy (administration) Antonio (production) and their children, worked diligently and within a single decade they managed to establish the most modern and strongest winery in the country. Their first wine production, 1990 Merlot, amounted to only 8000 bottles. In 2003, the production of their best wines, Lote 43 and 1999 Cabernet-Merlot, was more than ten times greater. They also produce ten other brands of wine, sparkling wine and grappa.
The area of Miolo vineyards has also increased more than tenfold. Four thousand kilometres to the north, in Vale do Sao Francisco, they planted Moscatel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, which are bottled under the Terranova brand. They have more than 150 employees, 100 vine growers in Vale dos Vinhedos, and are one of the biggest Brazilian wine producers.
The Miolo winery has modern facilities such as wine maturing cellars, tasting rooms, a wine shop, demonstration vineyards etc. It also takes part in the ambitious project of the first wine spa in South America.
The Miolo winery is a combination of Venetian precision and Brazilian liveliness.
