The SALTON family was one of the first families to arrive in Rio Grande do Sul from Italy and settled in a place called "Vila Izabel" in 1878, now the site of the city of Bento Gonçalves.
On 25 August 1910, Paulo Salton and brothers Ângelo, Jo?o, Cezar, Luiz and Antônio combined enterprise with family and founded a company called "Paulo Salton - Armazéns Gerais" (general stores), whose business was trade in cereals, dried meat and other food.
However, the brothers changed the nature of their business shortly afterwards because the young vine plants brought from their beloved Italy adapted very well to local conditions, and started a vineyard producing wine, sparkling wine and vermouth, branded "Paulo Salton & Irm?os" (and brothers).
Step by step, the company grew, acquired property, won competitions and received honorary awards, all this thanks to the high quality of their wines.
Their reputation increased and spread all over the state of Rio Grande do Sul and later, to other parts of Brazil.
Because of their location in the very south of Brazil, the company soon encountered problems in satisfying the ever-growing demand and volume of orders coming from all over the country. And so, Salton established a branch in Sao Paulo on 10 October 1948. Nowadays, besides its headquarters in Bento Gonçalves and a branch in Sao Paulo, the company owns two other facilities processing grapes and producing wine; one in Tuiuty (a part of Bento Gonçalves), the other in Monte Belo do Sul.
Throughout its existence, the Salton company has imported and adapted the best grapevine varieties for wine production, using them to establish 48 hectares of model vineyards in Tuiuty and Santa Lúcia (Monte Belo do Sul) where they employ the most efficient growing techniques.
These vineyards have become a reference for the development of the winegrowing and winemaking industry thanks to the excellent teams of growers who work there. Nowadays, more than 1000 vine growers supply the company with grapes. As well, the company invested in first-class oenological equipment at the same time; including air presses which gently squeeze the juice out of grapes to preserve their original flavour, equipment for vacuum filtering of must, centrifuges, stainless steel containers for holding wine and other equipment. In addition, the company maintains very strict standards for correct temperature and proper nitrogen sterilization on its production floors and so ensures the high quality of its aromatic wines retaining fruit flavours, complex aroma and quality taste.
The company has also been extremely successful in producing and selling one of the best products - Presidente cognac - in its branch. The cognac is the best-selling cognac in many Brazilian states.
Now, after more than nine decades of providing high quality service, after many difficult years and incredible effort, Vinhos Salton S/A has reached a solid position as one of the largest producers of wine in Brazil.
A contributing reason for Salton products being well known and popular all over Brazil, are the investments the company has made in recent years. Thanks to those investments, the company now possesses advanced technology, allowing it to continue developing the quality of its products.
The secret of long years of success is connected with an entrepreneurial spirit and the company's fundamental philosophy: providing healthy and high quality products.
