29/9 2005 - An extraordinary meeting of K.A.H.A.N. with a tasting
Brazilian wines came to Ostrava again. On 29 September 2005 an extraordinary meeting of the Ostrava-based wine supporters club K.A.H.A.N was held in the prestigious Koras restaurant in Ostrava. On this occasion a friendly competition of wines from several countries took place. Among participants there were Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Brazil.
Twenty-two samples in total took part in the competition, and the evaluation took the entire evening. The tasting abided by rules of due competitions, i.e. all bottles were packed so that none of the present evaluators knew which wine was being served. The evaluation itself was carried out based on the Vedel penalising system. Our
Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 from the Quinta do Seival series produced by the Miolo winery was announced as the best red wine of the evening, and in total ranking it won the third place.
The absolute winner was
Gewurztraminer 2004 made by the Salton winery, which the attendees found the most interesting. At the end of the tasting there was a minor banquet, where all the present attendees could sample various combinations of dishes and tested wines.
23/9/2005 - Free wine-tasting in the Duran restaurant, Hradec Králové
On Friday 23 September 2005 a free tasting of Brazilian wines (see
tasting list
) was held in Hradec Králové in a very impressive environment of the Duran restaurant.
This tasting was a part of an evening programme, where attendees could taste excellent dishes and wines while listening to cimbalom music, which is rather typical of presentations of Moravian wines.
The Brazilian ones seemed not to fit in this composition. The attendance of our stall, however, proved the contrary.
The present doctors and representatives of pharmaceutical companies (there were almost 300 of them) were interested a great deal.
For many of them it was the first opportunity to get acquainted with Brazilian wines. The stall with our wines was under siege throughout the evening.
Sommelier Martin Doležal and one of the company owners Mr. Jan Kobylák were busy all the evening answering the guests' inquisitive questions.
At this professionally organised event, Brazilian wines proved once again to be absolutely comparable with world production.
29/7/2005 - Guided wine tasting in the "U Jeňoura" wine cellar
On Friday, 29 July 2005, guided tasting of Brazilian wines took place in the "U Jeňoura" wine cellar in the picturesque South Moravian village of Prušánky; to be precise: in one of its parts called Nechory where you can find concentration of hundreds of small wine cellars.
In the fascinating cellar of the "U Jeňoura" bastion, twelve wines - produced by the prestigious Brazilian winemakers of Miolo, Salton and Casa Valduga - were tasted (see the
wine tasting list
).
Wine tasting, guided by our sommelier Mr. Martin Doležal, took place in a very pleasant atmosphere.
More than 35 invited guests took part in the event. Coming from the beautiful local wine region, many of them are winemakers themselves. For the first time, all of them could taste wines coming from such an undoubtedly unique destination as Brazil.
Thanks to perfect management of Mr. Jan "Jeňour" Ivičič, his family and friends, the guests were able to taste not only Brazilian wines but also delicious South American meat imported by IFC FOOD to the Czech market. These meat delicacies were presented by Mr. Zdeněk Hanzlík, the company sales manager.
Thanks to its cosy atmosphere, excellent wines and delicious food, the whole event lasted until late at night.

20/6/2005 - The 10th literary excursion of Zuzana and Eugen Brikcius
The tenth traditional excursion of Zuzana and Eugen Brikcius was organised in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Capital City of Prague as a tribute to the book and Prague.
The most electrifying was the appearance of the heroes who had appeared in the previous excursions, the authors born in Prague and writing in German, namely Max Brod, Franz Werfel and Franz Kafka.
The programme starred Ivan Kusnjer as Franz Werfel singing Verdi's arias.
The cast list also included: Zdenka Procházková, prof. Kurt Gebauer se svými studenty, Pavel Smetáček & Traditional Jazz Studio, Jazz Bluffers, Hanáci, Jana Šteflíčková, Jiří Enoch, Luboš Eger, Eugen Brikcius junior.
The time for Brazilian wines came in the last part of the programme when the company went on to enjoy itself on the roof terrace of the Lucerna Palace.
Transporting the wines upstairs in the paternoster lift and proving the existence of the claustrophobic strain in our minds, we were looking forward to the generous panorama of Prague and the wide-open sky.
In the middle of the happening we found ourselves contemplating the fact that the paternoster was not that cramped after all. The roof was really full and about to burst any time.
The atmosphere was, nevertheless, very relaxed. It was most interesting to see Manet's painting "On the beach" as well as Eugen Brikcius' multiple attempts to unveil it ceremoniously. :-)
